Guntersville Elementary is a primary-level school
located in Guntersville in northeastern Alabama. A small town
nestled between mountains, Guntersville is almost completely
surrounded by water. The diverse population of Guntersville
takes great pride in Guntersville Elementary School's 506
PreK-2 students. In fact, many residents note the quality
of the local education program as their reason for selecting
Guntersville as their home.
Some
of the uniqueness of the school is reflected in its campus, located
among trees on a six-acre hilltop just five blocks from downtown.
The five-building complex offers both safety and privacy for the
students. The main building, occupied since 1979, is a brick pod
structure that houses first and second grade classes and part of the
kindergarten classes, the media center, some student services and
the office area. Other buildings, which are accessed by covered
walkways, include a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a learning center and a
classroom building that houses some of the kindergarten classes.
Well equipped playgrounds typify the community spirit of cooperation
since they were funded by a parent support group and constructed
under the direction of the city. A backyard habitat area gives
students an opportunity to garden, to watch birds and insects and to
learn respect for the environment. Other campus structures include a
small amphitheater used for performances and other gatherings and a
picnic pavilion that accommodates up to two classes.
A major strength of the school is the staff's commitment to
excellence. This commitment begins with the system administration,
extends to the school faculty and staff and expands to include the
parent and community support groups.
Guntersville is located 45 miles south of Huntsville and 65 miles
north of Birmingham in Marshall county on beautiful Lake
Guntersville.
